Social Skills Groups

Developing Social Skills through Structured Group Activities

Alpine Learning Groups Social Skills Groups provide children with Autism the opportunity to learn and practice appropriate ways to conduct themselves in various social situations. Children will learn to share, initiate and join in play, and tolerate losing. They will also be given opportunities to practice starting and maintaining conversations, and participate in role play situations to learn to deal with teasing and bullying. The program is designed to increase the learner’s confidence and ability to cope with various social situations.

Social Skills Groups are available for ages 3-5, 5-7 or 7-9 and groups are matched based on ability level and target goals. Sessions are 1.5 hours long and run for 10 weeks beginning in the Fall. Each group is made up of 4-6 children and the staff to child ratio is 2:5. Summaries are provided to parents that target skill areas to work on at home.
